Composition Challenge!Step 1: Set The StageLet's make a list of compositional strategies to try as we view yearbook photos. Find examples of each and discuss how the strategy was applied.
Key strategies include: *Filling the picture plane *Establishing a focal point *The rule of thirds *Creating variety *Framing |
Step 2: Time To CreateYou and your partner will capture learning activities happening in classes. You both will need to take pictures showing each of the 5 strategies listed above. Remember to edit as you go. It often takes multiple tries to get the right shot. It's better to take too many pictures and have to pick your best than to only take a few and not have anything to choose from.
IMPORTANT! Make sure to take notes as you take pictures. You're going to need information for captions, so this is where your partner will be a huge help! |
Step 3: Share And ReflectShare your photos to Google Classroom. Tomorrow we will go over the photos as a group. I'd like for you to be able to share your top five photos (one from each strategy). Tell us how you selected which ones were the best and how they show each strategy.
NEXT: Let's decide if any of these photos will be used in the yearbook. We will hold onto them in case we decide later that we want them. We want to make sure we have more photos than we need. |
Step 4: Cheat SheetThese 5 strategies can be tricky to remember. Let's make a cheat sheet to put in your lanyard so you can look over them before a photo shoot.
Talk with other photographers about how you'd like to do this. It can be just words or can include pictures. |
