How To Write An Effective Lead
What is a Lead and why do I need one anyway? Click the picture to read more about leads from another yearbook company: Treering.
The article will cover important questions, like when will I need a lead? What needs to be included in a lead? What are things I should and shouldn't include in a lead? Discuss these things with your group. Remember, the yearbook is a team project. All year. Let's work together on this.

Let's Break It Down!
1. Collect all your facts.
*If you don't know the whole story, your lead won't be accurate.
*The more you know, the easier it will be to do the next step....
2. Sum it up, boil it down.
*If you had to shout your story to someone on your phone before you lose service, what would you say?
*Put your 5 W's down in writing.
3. Prioritize the 5 W's.
*Ask: which ones need to be in the lead? Which ones can wait?
4. Rethink, Revise, Rewrite.
*Write something.
*Then ask yourself... is it clear? Is it active? Is it wordy? Is it compelling?

All About Leads
Let's Practice
Go back to the interviews you just completed. See if you can spice things up with an awesome lead. Save a before and after for me to check. You can submit this on Google Classroom. Let me know when you've got this finished and I will show you where to save it for our Graphic Designers to use for the yearbook.
